The owners of this 1940’s cape cod home understood their game plan: after working with TPD through a Thrive at Home consultation, they had decided to embark on an addition/renovation project which would add an accessible owner suite to the home as well as an elevator to negotiate the level change from parking at the walkout basement below. The end result is a seamless addition which adds functionality and easy space for one-level living.
The addition is accessed both from the main level and from the elevator, which is sized for use by two people for accessibility as well as getting heavy and bulky items upstairs.
The new bedroom suite was designed to maximize natural light, with new storage/gym space below. The bedroom connects to a new owner bath and closet area, with a curbless shower, separate vanities and new his and hers closets. A main level laundry room close to the bedroom makes laundry day much easier, and a once underused closet accessed by bi-fold doors becomes a functional desk space with storage and lots of daylight.
