What’s trending in residential design? According to the American Institute of Architects, it might have something to do with living longer in your home!
We just filled out our AIA Home Design Trends survey for the 2Q 2022. It’s conducted in conjunction with The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and CRAN AIA, and we love being a part of this process of analyzing market trends for what we see in residential architecture.
What trends are they tracking? Of the eight popular trends we were asked to consider, FOUR of them were related to accessibility and aging in place.

Over the years, we’ve seen how these polls are both predictive and reflective. They can predict market design trends that will be valuable economically to homeowners and homebuyers, and they reflect current conditions that homeowners want to address in their renovation projects as they consider their significant investments.
Here at TPD, we don’t think about the work we do as “trendy.” We think of it as valuable to our clients and their families, but it’s still good to see that the market is catching up to how residential architecture can provide real value to homeowners for the long term, not just the current trend.
